We’ve all heard of the big cashback sites like Quidco, but there are tons of cashback apps that have been specifically designed to focus on supermarkets and food shopping. This blog post is going to look into 5 of the best cashback apps that will help you save money on your food shop. These apps are available in the UK and all work in a similar way, so they’re pretty easy to get the hang of.

Shopmium – Referral scheme & no minimum cashout
One of the most popular food shop cashback apps in the UK is Shopmium. In order to redeem cashback from this app, you need to scan the item’s barcode as well as the receipt, so don’t throw away your snacks’ packaging straight away.
A big advantage of using Shopmium is that the app also has a great referral scheme. Both you and your friend will be rewarded, and it’s as easy as sharing a link or entering a code. Referring a friend grants you credit to use on your account and the friend that signs up with your code will also receive a 100% cashback gift. Currently, the incentive is a free tin of Pringles, but in the past, Shopmium has given away free chocolates, sweets and drinks.
The best thing about Shopmium is that there’s no minimum withdrawal amount. As soon as you’ve scanned your receipt and Shopmium has approved it, you can immediately withdraw the money straight back into your bank account.
TopCashback – cashback dependent on the amount of money spent on your purchase
TopCashback is well known for its impressive welcome offers, often rewarding new customers with impressive deals and freebies. For this reason alone, it’s worth signing up to TopCashback. But wait, there’s more! You may think that TopCashback only covers retail stores such as clothing and electronic stores, but that’s simply not the case. The app also displays some great cashback offers that cover supermarkets and food shopping. The amount of cashback you are rewarded with depends on the total amount of money you spend on your food shop and whether you’re a returning or new customer.
CheckoutSmart – great for alcohol but no referral scheme
If you frequently buy alcohol, CheckoutSmart is the app for you. With frequent updates and an extremely user-friendly layout, CheckoutSmart offers a variety of food offers, as well as great deals on alcoholic beverages. What I find particularly useful is that redeeming an offer will make it disappear from your homepage, meaning you never accidentally try to redeem an offer you’ve already used.
There is a downside to CheckoutSmart though, and that is that in order to make sure your cashback rewards are 100% free, you need to bank £20 worth of savings. Of course, you can always withdraw before you read the £20 mark, however, you will be charged a 5% withdrawal theme.
GreenJinn – lots of offers for fruits and veggies
GreenJinn is a particularly useful app that will help you save money on your food shop, especially if you’re buying fresh fruit and vegetables. There are plenty of offers available thanks to a massive overhaul that happened recently, meaning you can now redeem cashback from supermarkets, as well as sites such as Amazon. You do need to save up £1.50 worth of cashback before being able to withdraw, but with the selection of offers available, this really doesn’t take long at all.
Shoppix – scan your receipts to earn gift cards
Shoppix is the odd one out on this list as it doesn’t offer any cashback, but trust me when I say, you’ll want to install it! In order to earn money on Shoppix, all you need to do is scan your receipt. By now you’ll be pretty good at that, especially if you have been using the above apps to redeem cashback. Every time you scan, you are rewarded with 25 or 30 points, depending on whether you’re scanning the receipt on the same day of purchase or not. These points build up over time with each receipt you scan, they can then be redeemed for gift vouchers for the likes of Amazon or PayPal. It’s not just physical receipts either, Shoppix will give you a personalised email that you can forward e-receipt to in order to earn you even more points. On top of all that, you are also able to answer short 2-3 minute surveys that grant you digital scratchcards and points.

If you want to make the most of these apps and really save on your food shopping, make sure you ‘stack’ your offers. To maximise your savings, make sure to look through all the other money saving apps on your phone to see if they have the same offers available.
